From Fr. Peter

Good Morning,

It is with a heavy and saddened heart that I share the following from Fr. Peter:

Thiyóšpaye and friends,

Just before 7 a.m. this morning, Muriel Lakota, Philomine’s daughter, informed us that her mother passed away last night, August 30, 2020, just before 11 p.m. She knew that we would all want to know, as we give thanks for the many ways in which her mother blessed so many of us in our family at Red Cloud.

Obviously, no arrangements have been made as yet, during this difficult time of the pandemic. However, in saddened gratitude let us give thanks for the life and generosity of Philomine Lakota and the ways in which her life-ways and values blessed and enriched us all. With her physical suffering behind her, may she now rest in peace and the blessings of a life well-lived for family and others.

Eternal rest grant unto Philomine, O Lord, and let the perpetual light of the Creator’s deep love guide and be upon her!

From RCHS:

To our community:

Philomine has given so much to our community and to all of us at Red Cloud in so many ways. She has been a vital part of our spiritual and cultural growth, and I know that this is difficult for our families, students, and staff for current and past. Please do not hesitate to reach out for help and/or to just talk. For our students, we will be inviting and offering spaces of sharing and reflection in both the Counseling and Spiritual Formation Departments later in the week, so please make sure to watch for those invitations.

The high school counselors,  Brother Joe and Bridget will be available as well as our Spiritual Formation Department, but students may reach out to anyone to share their thoughts and feelings. Guardians are encouraged to let us know if a student is struggling and of course students are encouraged to reach out directly.

Bridget and Bro Joe will be available every school day to provide counseling support during this time of grieving for the passing of Philomine.  They can be reached by simply emailing, or chatting them at the following addresses, or you could also call them at school 867-1289:

bridgetsebby@redcloudschool.org

On Friday, we will have a day of mourning for Philomine and our community. We will not have classes that day, but we will offer a virtual Spiritual Prayer Space and a virtual Counseling Talking Circle. All are invited. Spiritual Formation will be  from 8AM-9AM and Counseling will be from 9AM-10AM. These are not required meetings, but an opportunity to come together in community. Please look for those links in the near future.

Take Care and God Bless,

James Johnston
